Forging of metal plate

A hard object is pressed into a metal plate. Once in a while a new mesh is build, to prevent the elements from becoming too distorted. State variables (velocities, stresses, etc.) are mapped from the old mesh onto the new mesh. A Ludwig-Nadai hardening Von-Mises elasto-plastic law is used.

The plastic strains are shown in the first plot below.

The second plot shows the velocity distribution. It can be seen that under the pressed object, the velocities are downward (as prescribed). At the sides of the object, the material flows upward.
